Use Acrylic Wash to Give Wood Craft an Antique Look

Wood carving has been a popular art in India for a long time and today, many artisans can be found involved in it. They work hard to manufacture wonderful crafts out of different types of woods. For this purpose, they use different types of tools and techniques. However, only carving will not make a wood craft look amazing; you have to give it a great finishing look. For this, you can use an oil stain and paint on it. Though there are various coloring agents available in the market, but acrylic wash is popular among the carvers.

Many carvers do acrylic wash to give an antique look to a wood craft. The product is brand new, but it will look like an antique piece. Acrylic colors are versatile and can be used like watercolors. Acrylic wash will make the grain lines of the wood visible. For this, you will need acrylic paint and warm water. To make the mixture, mix the paint into warm water and stir it until it looks like a coffee with cream. Before doing the acrylic wash, make sure that your project is dust free and brush is clean.

You can use any color you want to give to wood craft. Before painting, apply two coats of clean water to it. When start painting it, move the brush vertically and try to keep overlapping small to avoid the marks. If there remains any, then lightly paint it until it looks symmetrical to others. Grain will represent itself in different color shades when dries. This wash is usually used for thin coloring and need extra attention. The color is absorbed along the water when dries, giving it an antique look. You should clean the brush immediately as acrylic can stick to it permanently.
