Sankheda lacquer work is a distinct type of embellishment done using golden, orange, and brown colors. Sometimes, silver color is also used to make wood craft more beautiful. However, modern artisans use ivory, purple, and green shades in embellishment. Objects having this work contain some circular columns blending into each other. The project is carved from the teak wood and is painted with the colors mentioned above. After that, it is kept on the lathe over burning coals. With the rotation of the lathe and heat of the coals, there remains a coat of lacquer. After that, the final product is smoothed by using leaves of Kewda tree.

According to a wooden handicraft supplier, the artisans involved in Sankheda lacquer work belong to the Kharadi community lived in the village of the same name. About one hundred and fifty years ago, people of this community were in huge trouble. They requested a holy man to show them a path to come out of their misery. He taught them to improve their carpentry skills. Thus, Sankheda lacquer work originated. In old time, they only catered their traditional customers, but the modern artists are producing these to fulfill the demands of urban people.

Well, this is a description of Sankheda lacquer work. This embellishment work is attracting people all over the world, making this small village famous at international level. So, if you are looking for amazing wood crafts to decorate home, you can try availing those with Sankheda lacquer work.

Acrylic wash will make the grain lines of the wood visible. For this, you will need acrylic paint and warm water. To make the mixture, mix the paint into warm water and stir it until it looks like a coffee with cream. Before doing the acrylic wash, make sure that your project is dust free and brush is clean.

You can use any color you want to give to wood craft. Before painting, apply two coats of clean water to it. When start painting it, move the brush vertically and try to keep overlapping small to avoid the marks. If there remains any, then lightly paint it until it looks symmetrical to others. Grain will represent itself in different color shades when dries. This wash is usually used for thin coloring and need extra attention. The color is absorbed along the water when dries, giving it an antique look. You should clean the brush immediately as acrylic can stick to it permanently.
